About
Self-Employment Tax Calculator is a free tool for freelancers, contractors, and other self-employed people to estimate 2026 self-employment tax (SECA — Social Security and Medicare) and preview Schedule C net profit. Everything runs locally in your browser: your numbers never leave your device.
Where the numbers come from
Rates are statutory: 12.4% Social Security (up to the 2026 wage base of $184,500, per the Social Security Administration) and 2.9% Medicare, plus the 0.9% additional Medicare tax above filing-status thresholds. The 92.35% base factor follows IRS Schedule SE. The wage base is adjusted most years — this site updates the constants when the SSA announces a new figure.
What this tool is not
It is not a tax advisor, tax preparer, or CPA service, and it does not file returns. It produces rough estimates that ignore federal income tax brackets, state taxes, credits, and most deductions. Nothing here is tax advice — verify everything against official IRS publications or a qualified tax professional before making decisions.
Start with the home calculator or read the Schedule C guide.
